Been completely buried in work. Brain confusion and constant fuzz . Felt like a snail in winter. Surfaced is a flurry of excitement at sharing on the Friday…

My Bournemouth residency

Posted on: February 2nd, 2015 by Antonia Grove

Thanks Bournemouth for all those who attended my Friday sharing and participated in the tasks, and to all those who contributed their thoughts and responses over tea/coffee afterwards.

We discussed Risk, struggle, being bombarded, desperation, meditating on what is ‘Something’ and what is ‘nothing’, being stuck, pressure building, escapism, dangerous places, illusion, strangers helping you, possibility of magic… x

playtime in the seafront studio at Pavilion Dance…

You can find a quiet room to sit and write, with a desk, some natural light, a heater, wifi connection etc.

But to contemplate making movement, envisage work that needs space, to dance around to loud music, to speak out loud and hear yourself resonate in a space, to make a mess, to play with ‘stuff’ in space, to improvise and  develop a devising process with all the materials you want to use… to do all this and more, you need someone to give you a studio, a blank canvas and say ‘now do what you do in it’.

It’s so simple. But these conditions can be hard to find in Brighton. So I’m in Bournemouth, brilliant! And I  can begin to believe I can actually practise my profession and look towards making a piece of art.

So thanks to Pavilion Dance South West for giving an artist a home for a week!

And anyone who wants to join me for an ideas sharing and cuppa tea/chat this Friday 2-3pm, your presence would be very welcome and appreciated.
